The template gave the sense that the Great Wall is a long east to west line but as can be seen from the diagram in this link chinahighlights.com/greatwall/map.htm there were several branches of the Great Wall. Principally, there was an Outer Great Wall (the main line), Inner Great Wall (a shorter east-west line), and a spur along the Hebei/Shanxi. These terms are taken from a book on the Great Wall The Great Wall of China 221 BC–AD 1644.
