Standardization does not over-ride accuracy http://www.nhregister.com/content/articles/2011/01/05/news/doc4d24b6d09afca4483260832.jpg That photo is fromthe election of the LT. Governor of Connecticut, and I can give many more examples where the Coat of Arms is the primary symbol of the statee. The Seal is for stamping official documents only. First off, see WP:BRD. If you make a change then it is reverted, you need to wait for discussion before making the change again. Hence, right or wrong, the seal stays in place until you tell us why it shouldn't. Frankly, showing us a picture where the coat of arms is used on a podium doesn't cut it. What sources do you have that suggest the coat of arms is "more official" (or whatever you're implying) than the seal? – Muboshgu (talk) 23:20, 27 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2011-07-27T23:20:00.000Z","author":"Muboshgu","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Muboshgu-2011-07-27T23:20:00.000Z-Fry1989-2011-07-27T23:13:00.000Z","replies":["c-Fry1989-2011-07-27T23:33:00.000Z-Muboshgu-2011-07-27T23:20:00.000Z"]}}-->
First of all, lose the attitude. Second, it's not a matter of "more official", it's a matter of which symbol the State uses for what purpose. All the State Agency websites that do not have a seal or logo of their own use the Coat of Arms as well, not the Seal. Government stationary is also headed with the Coat of Arms, rather then the seal. 1, 2, 3, 4, and others. Fry1989 (talk) 23:33, 27 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2011-07-27T23:33:00.000Z","author":"Fry1989","type":"comment","level":3,"id":"c-Fry1989-2011-07-27T23:33:00.000Z-Muboshgu-2011-07-27T23:20:00.000Z","replies":["c-Fry1989-2011-07-27T23:39:00.000Z-Fry1989-2011-07-27T23:33:00.000Z"]}}-->
Also, you must stop reverting my change of the Flag stub to the State Flag file. The colours were changed on Commons per talk about the Flag and it's proper colours, per State Government Source. The use of the flag, and this discussion about the Coat of Arms v. the Seal are NOT related. You need to assume good faith when you edit. When I see edit summaries like these, it becomes clear that you're not intending on engaging in a discussion to develop any consensus. – Muboshgu (talk) 01:23, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2011-07-28T01:23:00.000Z","author":"Muboshgu","type":"comment","level":5,"id":"c-Muboshgu-2011-07-28T01:23:00.000Z-Fry1989-2011-07-27T23:39:00.000Z","replies":["c-Rxguy-2011-07-28T01:33:00.000Z-Muboshgu-2011-07-28T01:23:00.000Z"]}}-->
I'll grant that the Connecticut government website has the coat of arms on their site, but your items listed 1 through 4 all come from that site so are really only one source of evidence. As for the coat of arms being seen in the election of the LT. Governor, could that actually be the seal of the Governor which happens to use the coat of arms but is a separate seal itself? Either way, both are official symbols of the state Rxguy (talk) 01:33, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2011-07-28T01:33:00.000Z","author":"Rxguy","type":"comment","level":6,"id":"c-Rxguy-2011-07-28T01:33:00.000Z-Muboshgu-2011-07-28T01:23:00.000Z","replies":["c-Rxguy-2011-07-28T01:47:00.000Z-Rxguy-2011-07-28T01:33:00.000Z"]}}-->
I can't really find anything that says one is more appropriate than the other and the wiki community must not have a clear consensus either. Article tags for Portal:Connecticut use the seal while tags for Wikipedia:WikiProject Connecticut use the coat of arms. Per my first image, no that can't be the Seal of the Governor or the LG. Both are more detailed, and use wording around them (as you can see on the Governor and LG's website), which this lectern seal does not. It's more in commonality with how Pennsylvania and Alabama some times user their Coat of Arms. Instead of using the Arms by themself, and say a European Country would, Alabama and Pennsylvania commonly "seal-ify" them for lectern and podium use, as you can see here and here, although that's not an official version. I'd have to say that the Coat of Arms is the more common symbol of the state and the one that residents are most likely to have frequent exposure to. The Coat of Arms is present on state driver's licenses, for example. Also, not only is the Coat of Arms present on state letterheads, but I've seen it on the outside of many envelopes of state agencies and elected officials (sorry, no image). It is also the Coat of Arms that is featured on the state flag, not the seal. Because the Coat of Arms seems the most common symbol of the state -- which I am a resident of, I should add -- it would be my preference to see it used in this elections template instead of the seal. However, that is just a preference and I'm fine with whatever the consensus decision may be. --Sgt. R.K. There is a move discussion in progress on Template talk:Elections in Alabama which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section.
