I removed a number of these articles from Category:History of video games as the category was not a defining trait. I think categories such as Category:1960s video games are perfect for searchability. I agree that no specific video game should be in the "History of video games" category. Eh, the CRTAD was a electronic game/device, not a computer in any form, and could only play one game because it was only that game. Nimrod was a computer, sure, but one custom built to run a single program (and, in fact, wouldn't be able to run any other programs), and Bertie was actually the exact same, it just got a "game" name instead of a "computer" name. If you exclude games from the Early History category then there's... not really anything there at all. And maybe that's fine? Could it exist with only the early history article, the early mainframes article and category, and people like Ralph Baer?
