This template is used on approximately 11,000 pages and changes may be widely noticed. Test changes in the template's /sandbox or /testcases subpages, or in your own user subpage. Consider discussing changes on the talk page before implementing them.

This template may be used on the talk page of a Wikipedia user who has been a longer-term contributor but has not been active on Wikipedia for a considerable time. Its purpose is to inform other editors that the user in question has not been active for a long time, and in particular, that they may not reply to any messages or questions. It also links to further information at the Missing Wikipedians page.

What "considerable time" means can vary. For most users, do not add this template until a year with no activity has passed. For prolific contributors, as little as three months can be justified. Don't use this template for relatively new accounts or for users confirmed to have died.

Do not put this template on user pages, only on user talk pages. If the user has already used another template (such as {{Retired}}) to announce their departure, don't add this template, as a goodbye message is already there for everyone to see.

This template populates Category:Wikipedians who opt out of message delivery and Category:Wikipedians who opt out of template messages.

Parameters

All parameters are optional.

|1=: The first unnamed parameter replaces "may have left Wikipedia" portion of the template message.
|2=username: Second unnamed parameter replaces the default username (taken from the page title).
|date= (alias |3=): Parameter date adds a text where you can explain when the editor last edited. This can be a date, but it can also be any text.
