Temmie Chang (born 1993), also known as Tuyoki, is a video game animator, illustrator, and developer.[1] Best known for her work as the lead artist for the critically acclaimed indie role-playing game Undertale, she also appears as a self-insert character in that game and in its follow-up, Deltarune.[1] In 2019, she released Escaped Chasm, her first foray as the creator of an RPG maker game.[2][3] In 2020 she released Dweller's Empty Path.[4]
Chang is known for her distinctive style of pixel art and animation with flexible lines and dynamic subjects, conveying a sense of nostalgia.[1]
Early life and education
Chang became interested in video game universes as a child watching her cousin play Breath of Fire.[1] Around 2006, she began sharing her digital art on DeviantArt.[1] She went on to study 2D animation at the Pratt Institute in New York.[1]
Career
Following a message from developer Toby Fox, who was a fan of her artwork, Chang agreed to help him with his personal project called Undertale.[1] Although she did not draw everything in the game, she worked on its most complex elements, including cutscenes and several characters, including the Temmies, a dog species derived from a sketch by artist Betty Kwong.[1] There is also a very excited character called "Temmie" who appears in a hidden area of the game.[5]
The widespread acclaim and commercial success of Undertale allowed Chang to pay off her student loans and gain notice for her work.[1] She regularly works with the animation studio Yotta, and has collaborated with video game developers WayForward and Team Meat.[1]
Cheng has released two RPG Maker games, including Escaped Chasm (2019), followed by Dweller's Empty Path (2020).[1] Fox worked on the music for both games, while Camellia arranged most of the music for Dweller's.[1][4]
