While I can claim to be a FROG expert, I cannot claim the same for SPIDER. I can help with this page, but I don't feel qualified to add the information that it really needs. -- Erik Zeek21:20, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2005-12-19T21:20:00.000Z","author":"Zeekec","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Zeekec-2005-12-19T21:20:00.000Z","replies":[],"displayName":"Erik Zeek"}}-->
I am not an expert either, but I posted a major cleanup based on Iaconis and Walmsley's Optics Letters and JQE papers. I also think the title should be changed to: Spectral phase interferometry for direct electric field reconstruction. The papers were:
C. Iaconis and I. A. Walmsley, "Self-Referencing Spectral Interferometry for Measuring Ultrashort Optical Pulses," IEEE J. Quantum Electron. 35(4), p. 501-509 (1999).
C. Iaconis and I. A. Walmsley, "Spectral phase interferometry for direct electric-field reconstruction of ultrashort optical pulses," Opt. Lett. 23(10), p. 792-794 (1998).

I created a new page and set up a redirect link. -- Pgabolde16:07, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2006-03-27T16:07:00.000Z","author":"Pgabolde","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Pgabolde-2006-03-27T16:07:00.000Z-Patrick_Berry-2006-03-15T03:28:00.000Z","replies":["c-Laurascudder-2006-03-27T17:51:00.000Z-Pgabolde-2006-03-27T16:07:00.000Z"]}}-->
Just so you know in the future, the appropriate way to do that is simply to click the move tab. Then with only two clicks the page's history and talk page are moved with it and a redirect left at the old location. I'll fix the history issue here in a bit. — Laura Scudder☎17:51, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2006-03-27T17:51:00.000Z","author":"Laurascudder","type":"comment","level":3,"id":"c-Laurascudder-2006-03-27T17:51:00.000Z-Pgabolde-2006-03-27T16:07:00.000Z","replies":[],"displayName":"Laura Scudder"}}-->
The picture that was added could use some labeling or a legend of some sort. I like it, but as it stands, it seems a bit confusing.Patrick Berry15:01, 24 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2006-04-24T15:01:00.000Z","author":"Patrick Berry","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Patrick_Berry-2006-04-24T15:01:00.000Z","replies":["c-Patrick_Berry-2006-06-05T17:08:00.000Z-Patrick_Berry-2006-04-24T15:01:00.000Z"]}}-->
I removed the picture pending labeling or legend of some sort. I may recreate a similar diagram.Patrick Berry17:08, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2006-06-05T17:08:00.000Z","author":"Patrick Berry","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Patrick_Berry-2006-06-05T17:08:00.000Z-Patrick_Berry-2006-04-24T15:01:00.000Z","replies":[]}}-->
The present picture and description are very abstract and introduces a large amount of variable names.
My image was also very complicated, but a real Spider is a complicated device.
Why does one need a linear temporal phase modulator?
The initial image is meant to generalize the SPIDER as a combination of filters. This information comes straight from the original papers on SPIDER and are accurate.Patrick Berry13:03, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2006-08-28T13:03:00.000Z","author":"Patrick Berry","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Patrick_Berry-2006-08-28T13:03:00.000Z","replies":[]}}-->
I think it is more obvious to split the pulse according to frequency and then use delay lines.
I am not sure what you mean here, but again, the information that was in the article before is straight from the literature.Patrick Berry13:03, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2006-08-28T13:03:00.000Z","author":"Patrick Berry","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Patrick_Berry-2006-08-28T13:03:00.000Z-1","replies":[]}}-->
must be obtained by a separate measurement of the pulse spectrum
And what about the intensity between the fringes?

I am not sure that it makes sense to state one thing in the theory section and then contradict or minimize it in later sections. Arnero, do you have alot of hands on SPIDER experience? Mine is all theoretical.Patrick Berry13:06, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2006-08-28T13:06:00.000Z","author":"Patrick Berry","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Patrick_Berry-2006-08-28T13:06:00.000Z","replies":[]}}-->
How about to shorten the title?
Can it be just spectral phase interferometry, or even spectral phase?

I don't think we can shorten it just for our convienance. Anything shorter wouldn't identifiably be the same device. — Laura Scudder☎13:43, 6 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2007-08-06T13:43:00.000Z","author":"Laurascudder","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Laurascudder-2007-08-06T13:43:00.000Z-Domitori-2007-04-01T00:35:00.000Z","replies":[],"displayName":"Laura Scudder"}}-->
Why am I not able to find any graphs showing a measured electric field in papers, on the notes of my coworkers, or in the web? A picture of this would enhance this article and simplify the understanding of the CEO offset article.
