Article name
Hello, my dear Wikipedia readers, writers, and editors. I suggest renaming this article to Rodrigo Hernández, which is this person's legal first and last name.
According to his profile on the official website of the club, as well as the backside of his jersey, he seems to have stopped using "Rodri" as his nickname.

Its a wrong fact about Rodri. He was only the highest paid transfer by City not the highest transfer paid in the premier league. The source (16) even says this. 83.75.210.192 (talk) 16:47, 10 July 2019 (UTC)
Rodrigo
Since a few years he is known as Rodrigo. Rodri was is nickname in the first years of his career. Manchester City profile, Premier League profile, name on his jersey. --HSV1887 (talk) 10:25, 16 August 2019 (UTC)
- Although the websites you've listed does say "Rodrigo", the BBC website says "Rodri" in their latest PL match. However, 126,000 results for Rodri compared to 63,200,000 results for Rodrigo should actually mean he is commonly known as Rodrigo due to popularity of results shown. The page Rodrigo (footballer, born 1996) is currently a redirect to the Rodri (footballer) article.
- An auto-confirmed user has moved this page to the current article without (further) discussion to this thread. Per page history, this page has been moved five times with no discussions on any of them. Judging the amount of page results from Google Search, this page should be moved back to "Rodrigo (footballer, born 1996)" due to the popularity of compared versions. Rodri (footballer) → Rodrigo (footballer, born 1996) – Club website and Premier League website mentioned on the above subject lists him as "Rodrigo" despite the BBC listing him as "Rodri" Iggy (Swan) (What I've been doing to maintain Wikipedia) 20:59, 21 October 2019 (UTC)
- The club website also refers to him as "Rodri" in prose, but as "Rodrigo" in titles since the middle of August. Has there been a news article about the reason for the change? – PeeJay 21:48, 21 October 2019 (UTC)

- It looks like he was 'Rodrigo' in Spain - see eg this and this which UK media turned into Rodri? GiantSnowman 08:09, 22 October 2019 (UTC)
- I've had a look at the Premier League website a second time where news about the player has the reporters typing in 'Rodri'. In response to PeeJay, the Guardian source says Rodrigo in the title but the third paragraph states "Generally known as Rodri, the player will wear the name Rodrigo on the back of his shirt." and says the smaller name further down. Therefore I should now think the title should stay as it is rather than moving it to a lesser known title from the "Man City" searches from Google. Iggy (Swan) (What I've been doing to maintain Wikipedia) 18:01, 22 October 2019 (UTC)
- Comment I would rather have the article moved to "Rodri (footballer, born 1996)" instead of "Rodrigo (footballer, born 1996)". Rodri seems to be more used than Rodrigo, for now, so I would keep it as such. Also, why did @Supercozmo move this article to "Rodri (footballer)"? There are multiple other footballers named Rodri as well. KingSkyLord (talk | contribs) 21:37, 27 October 2019 (UTC)

Rodri's Height
Hi guys. This article lists Rodri's height as 1.90m, but he's actually 1.91m.
According to Transfermarkt, and Sportsmen Height and FIFA, his height stands at 191cm. Even football games like FIFA(EAFC 24) and Dream League Soccer have changed the height to 191cm. 180.129.93.24 (talk) 07:46, 24 July 2023 (UTC)
- Many different websites who have the same players on databases unfortunately give different values for player's heights, it's a general problem as multiple players's data have different height values as well as Rodri. The linked reference used for the height in this article gives 1.90m.
- By the way - transfermarkt is not a reliable source to use on Wikipedia so keep that in mind. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 15:37, 24 July 2023 (UTC)

Lead image
Right, it's time to change the lead image. That one is from 2019, and shows him in a Spain away kit. That image can still be included on the page in the 'international career' section, but not the lead image in my opinion.
Lead image should either be a recent one of him playing for Manchester City (by recent I mean from within the last two years) or a picture of him doing his victory acceptance speech following his Ballon d'Or win. 92.236.118.94 (talk) 18:44, 7 February 2025 (UTC)

Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: moved. While the initial nomination was clearly opposed, an alternate proposal of moving to Rodri per WP:PRIMARYTOPIC gained significant support. Supporters of that move provided pageview analysis and long-term significance analysis, while opposers did not counter those analyses, only really making assertions that this Rodri was not the primary topic without providing evidence. A number of editors only opposed the initial proposal, and I ignored those for determining consensus on the primary topic grab. Given all that, I find consensus to move the 1996 footballer to just Rodri. (closed by non-admin page mover) Skarmory (talk • contribs) 05:39, 8 August 2026 (UTC)

Opposeper WP:COMMONNAME. The player is overwhelmingly just known by "Rodri", not his middle and last name. Sources primary refer to him as just "Rodri" and search trends indicate that the middle and last name is not even comparable (although there are multiple Rodris of course, this Rodri has clearly been the most well-known of them for many years).[1] There may be a WP:PRIMARYTOPIC debate to be had,my own personal approval or disapproval I am not yet sure of.Raskuly 🐰 05:59, 20 July 2026 (UTC)- You're saying that as if "Rodri (footballer, born 1996)" is not going to confuse anyone more than if a redirect would be done. I'd much rather see his page located at simply Rodri, that would be valid, but I believe the current pagename is only a door for confusion. Ieditarticles (talk) 08:25, 20 July 2026 (UTC)
- Support but as per WP:COMMONNAME I'm much more inclined to support the idea of moving the page to Rodri. Ieditarticles (talk) 08:27, 20 July 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:COMMONNAME and oppose any other move given it's such a common nickname and there are so many footballers born within a few tears of each other. Abcmaxx (talk) 10:38, 20 July 2026 (UTC)
- Even though there are many footballers named Rodri born within a few years of each other. I'd say this one is much more prominent and would prefer to see it moved to Rodri rather than the suggested name. YeedyYaada (talk) 10:13, 25 July 2026 (UTC)
- @BilledMammal
- Let's make a poll to decide.
- I think Rodrigo Hernandez Cascante would be better. BavarianWorks (talk) 11:24, 20 July 2026 (UTC)
- Move to Rodri as per WP:PRIMARYTOPIC and WP:COMMONNAME; Rodri (b. 1996) is much more prominent and accomplished than anyone else on the dab page, being a WC, Euro, UCL and Ballon d'Or winner. YeedyYaada (talk) 12:03, 20 July 2026 (UTC)
- Move to Rodri and move the current Rodri to Rodri (disambiguation) per YeedyYaada his clearly more prominent than the other Rodri in the DAB. Warm Regards, Miminity (Talk?) (me contribs) 13:19, 20 July 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose. No objection to moving Rodri (footballer, born 1996) to the top of the Rodri dabpage; there is obviously going to be enormous interest in him over the next while. 162 etc. (talk) 15:35, 20 July 2026 (UTC)
- Move to Rodri - going off the precedent set by WP:PRIMARYTOPIC; he is far more accomplished and notable than the other players listed under the name "Rodri."

- Oops, meant to reply to the original post. My mistake! Nonetheless, I would still move the article to Rodri. BigBlackCthulhu (talk) 16:23, 20 July 2026 (UTC)
- Move to Rodri as WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, with a hatnote linking to the disambiguation page. I would say this is a situation comparable to Romario, where although they are not widely recognized by the general public to the level of Pele, they are sufficiently more notable than other persons with their name to be the primary topic for their name. - Oppose, as above, no one, not even the media uses that name, and also not a PRIMARYTOPIC. Guyrichtheman (talk) 09:13, 21 July 2026 (UTC)
- Comment for people saying that there is no basis for a WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, the two common tests are usage and long-term significance:
- Usage: Wikinav shows that the DAB page Rodri directs between 61% and 70% of its viewers towards Rodri (footballer, born 1996), and WMCloud shows that Rodri (footballer, born 1996) has 838,661 pageviews in the past year, while all other pages at Rodri combined have only 37,154. Off-Wiki, usage is similarly ubiquitous that 'Rodri' is the player born 1996 unless otherwise specified. Off-wiki, usage is similarly ubiquitous: searching for "Rodri" in search engines such as Google or Bing will show a profile of Rodri, born 1996; LLMs will automatically assume a prompt including "Rodri" is referring to the player born 1996; etc.
- Long-term significance: Since all the DAB targets for 'Rodri' are Spanish footballers, we can use their sporting achievements as a starting point. Rodri (footballer, born 1996) is a Ballon d'Or winner, World Cup winner & Golden Ball, Euro winner & Player of the Tournament, Champions League winner, Club World Cup winner, four-times Premier League winner, and has won a long list of other accolades both as a team member and individually, he also has 70 international caps for Spain. The only other player on the DAB list with any international caps is Rodri (footballer, born 1934) who has 4, alongside two La Liga titles, two Spanish Cups and an Inter-Cities Fairs cup; and no individual accolades. This is where I feel that by winning the World Cup & being named Golden Ball, Rodri (born 1996) has reached sufficient pre-eminence with regards to long-term significance. In 50 years, when someone refers to Rodri, there's little doubt in my mind that at this point it will be the person born 1996 they are talking about, unless they specify.
- I would be interested in people who say that there is no WP:PRIMARYTOPIC case explaining further on what basis they hold this view. Shazback (talk) 17:32, 21 July 2026 (UTC)
- Move to Rodri as WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. I was hesitant mainly because of the 1934-born Rodri, but Shazback has basically through the above comment put any reservations I had to rest. Struck out the part of my previous comment, but otherwise my above rationale still applies. Raskuly 🐰 18:13, 21 July 2026 (UTC)
- Move to Rodri, I think at this point he's set himself aside from the rest in terms of long-term significance, and he already has the pageview advantage.--Ortizesp (talk) 22:34, 21 July 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose I'd have gone my whole life without knowing his first surname without reading this page (even Xavi was sometimes referred to as "Xavi Hernández"), let alone his second surname, which in trivia terms is the equivalent of a middle name. Unknown Temptation (talk) 10:49, 22 July 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose - he is already at the correct title even though the RM I requested pre-2020 now seems wrong these days. Wikipedia does not currently title Michu as Miguel Pérez Cuesta or Jota (footballer, born 1991) as Jota Peleteiro as in both cases they are known as by the one name when they played their football. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 19:49, 22 July 2026 (UTC)
- Move to Rodri per Shazback. As noted by a host of publications [2][3], Rodri is only the seventh player in history to win the World Cup, the European Championship/Copa América, the Champions League, and the Ballon d'Or (after Franz Beckenbauer, Gerd Müller, Zinedine Zidane, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho, and Lionel Messi). According to The Athletic, he could be the greatest defensive midfielder of all time.[4] The Premier League says that he's arguably its greatest player.[5] None of the other Rodris compare in terms of long-term significance. Malerisch (talk) 20:44, 23 July 2026 (UTC)
- Move to Rodri per reasons mentioned by Shazback and others. Clayper1 (talk) 03:48, 25 July 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose – per WP:COMMONNAME, it would be like suggesting the Pedri article be called Pedro González López or Gavi (footballer) be called Pablo Martín Páez Gavira. Publicwalrus (talk) 21:31, 27 July 2026 (UTC)
- Comment – I would like to ask the users who oppose moving this page to "Rodri Hernández Cascante" about their opinion on moving this page to simply Rodri. This player is far more notable than anyone else on the DAB page based on current trends and historical precedent, and is clearly the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. YeedyYaada (talk) 07:04, 29 July 2026 (UTC)
- Relisting comment: There's pretty clear opposition to the initially proposed title, but I'd like more discussion about the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC case for moving this article to just Rodri; a number of editors only chimed in on the initial proposal. Skarmory (talk • contribs) 09:44, 29 July 2026 (UTC)
- Please see also my note to closer above. Rotideypoc41352 (talk · contribs) 12:53, 30 July 2026 (UTC)
- Relisting comment: Procedural relist after proposed target change, to give a full seven days. Skarmory (talk • contribs) 16:00, 31 July 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose - many footballers have this name. We should not give preference to one over the others. Chocolatewade (talk) 23:29, 31 July 2026 (UTC)
- Is this meant to be an anti-this Rodri being the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC argument? I'm not sure because we do give the primary topic to an article if the consensus is that they are the most likely desired target when conducting a search and they have much higher long-term significance than their counterparts. See Vitinha and Vitinha (disambiguation) for a recent football-related example. Raskuly 🐰 23:43, 31 July 2026 (UTC)
- We should if they are PRIMARYTOPIC. Ortizesp (talk) 01:41, 2 August 2026 (UTC)
- Move to Rodri per reasons mentioned above. I would argue he is definitely the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC in this case. A quick google search further supports this as literally 90%+ of the search results relate directly to the player. REDMAN 2019 (talk) 10:03, 7 August 2026 (UTC)
