Forgive my asking, but the operating system written from scratch or is it based on some existing operating system? E.g. Sony have been using their own custom version of free/netBSD for as long as "i think" the PS2, it's basically a highly optimized version they maintain for each specific set of hardware, the Vita like the PS4 is an evolution of the work they've done in the past for the PS2/PS3 and many other Sony devices. Is there any particular reason 'PSVITA system software' and the 'PlayStation 4 system software' pages keep listing future update versions as if it was current?
