German wikipedia says:

Der Name des Ortes wird auf das althochdeutsche viuhtje - fichta zurückgeführt, also auf die Fichte (mundartlich Féichdn).

it says the name is based on the old german word for the spruce tree (german: fichte), not "wet/humid" (which is what i would think of in the first place, too :D)

so.. either the german or english wikipedia is wrong! (omg ;-)
