Pelorus

The subject of this sentence: Approached on Geffen's behalf by broker Merle Wood, Geffen bought Pelorus in 2011 for $300 million. is Geffen (the second instance of the name). It therefore doesn't make sense. I've changed it to Approached on Geffen's behalf by broker Merle Wood, Irina sold Pelorus to Geffen in 2011 for $300 million. but it's still not great English, and I have no idea whether it's the case; whether it's actually what happened!
