[Overview]

Calisen Group (Holdings) Limited, known as Calisen, is a UK company operating in the energy and environmental sectors.

Calisen owns, finances, installs and operates utilities infrastructure assets – including smart meters, electric vehicle charging, solar and battery, heat pump installation, meter reading, maintenance and ancillary services (Calisen) – and is currently the UK’s largest meter asset provider, owning and managing more than 16 million meters (EQT).

Based in Manchester, it has offices in Wigan, London, Portsmouth and Market Harborough, and an in-house training academy in Ashton-in-Makerfield.

The business is majority-owned by EQT and GIC, with Equitix retaining a minority stake, following EQT and GIC’s purchase of the majority stake in the business in 2025 from BlackRock’s Global Infrastructure Partners, Goldman Sachs Alternatives, and Mubadala Investment Company [1](The Financial Times (FT), 2024).

[History]

The company was established in 2002 as Calvin Asset Management. It received financial backing from Infracapital in 2007 and was renamed Calvin Capital in 2010. In June 2016, the business was acquired by KKR and acquired Wigan-based meter installer Lowri Beck in April 2019. The company was listed on the London Stock Exchange in January 2020.

In March 2021 a takeover of the business was completed by a consortium of private equity funds, including the Global Energy & Power Infrastructure Fund III, Nineteenth Investment Company, and funds managed by Goldman Sachs.

Later in 2021, Calisen expanded its portfolio through acquisitions including Environmental Energies Limited (EEL) (now named Plug me in), MapleCo, Ecofit Renewables and Source Eco. It also acquired Advizzo, a software-as-a-service provider specialising in water and energy smart meter data.

In 2025, EQT and GIC acquired a majority stake in Calisen from BlackRock’s Global Infrastructure Partners.

Calisen now operates through the core trading arms of Calisen Metering, Calisen Metering Services, Advizzo and Plug me in, which sit under Calisen Group (Holdings).

[Operations]

Calisen’s core business is the ownership, finance, installation and operation of smart and traditional metering infrastructure assets in Great Britain, in partnership with national energy suppliers.

Calisen employs around 1,100 metering engineers to install and maintain smart meters, including people who undertake the reading of more than four million meters per year. It also has around 400 office-based roles.

Calisen formalised its sustainability programme in 2020, under the vision “Smarter energy for all.” In 2022, the company published a report further defining its sustainability ambitions and aligning them with its business strategy.

In 2023, the business established the Calisen Impact Charitable Trust, a registered charity in England and Wales, to support charitable activities across Great Britain. The trust provides grants to organisations aligned with its focus areas, including climate action and community development, and operates a match-funding scheme for employee fundraising initiatives.

In February 2025, Calisen and Octopus Energy Germany announced a pilot for the financing and operation of smart meters in Germany. In November 2025, Calisen concluded a €100mn meter asset provider (MAP) services contract with Energy Metering Germany, the metering point operator arm of Octopus Energy Germany. Calisen’s new German business offers MAP services to Metering Point Operators across Germany.

[Leadership]

Catherine O’Kelly has served as CEO of Calisen Group since October 2025. She was previously Managing Director of British Gas Energy5 (Calisen).

In March 2025, Walter Schmidt was appointed Group Chair, succeeding Bert Pijls, who was previously Chair and Chief Executive Officer.

The executive team includes Chief Commercial Officer and General Counsel Sarah Blackburn, Chief Financial Officer Brandon Rennet, Chief Operating Officer Matthew Bateman, Chief People Officer San Johal and Chief Technology Officer Dr Diane Bitzel.

My strong suggestion is that you narrow down this request, and propose one or two things at a time, and wait for those to be acted on before you propose another change. Edit requests are reviewed by volunteers in their free time; long requests take more time to review, reducing the chances a volunteer will want to invest their limited free time in reviewing a lengthy request. Shorter requests take less time to review and increase the likelihood of a volunteer taking it up. You're welcome to wait if you wish; I understand that you want the changes made as quickly as possible, but that must give way to the volunteer nature of this project. 331dot (talk) 10:56, 19 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
