This site credits the 4th Marquess of Bute with remodeling Caerphilly Castle. Given that he was born in 1881, any such work would probably have been done in the 20th century. Perhaps earlier Marquesses also contributed to a lesser extent. -- Ortonmc 22:44, 2 Nov 2003 (UTC)
I removed a link to *Caerphilly Castle on Caerphilly Net because the domain registration seems to have expired and is no longer particularly relevant. There probably could be some mention of Doctor Who or the Tardis on this page given this
photo, I presume the Castle has been used in filming at various times so could probably get a small section on that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by EdwardLane (talk • contribs) 21:56, 7 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2011-05-07T21:56:00.000Z","author":"EdwardLane","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-EdwardLane-2011-05-07T21:56:00.000Z-Doctor_Who's_Tardis_and_Caerphilly_Castle","replies":["c-FruitMonkey-2011-05-07T22:50:00.000Z-EdwardLane-2011-05-07T21:56:00.000Z"]}}-->
Can't see anything encyclopedic about this. Hi! I'll be reviewing this article for GA status, and should have my full review up shortly. GA review (see here for what the criteria are, and here for what they are not)
I am passing the GAN. There are a few comments above, regarding prose and one references niggle, but these are not enough to get in the way of GA status. Very nice work, Dana boomer (talk) 16:33, 20 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2013-01-20T16:33:00.000Z","author":"Dana boomer","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Dana_boomer-2013-01-20T16:33:00.000Z-Dana_boomer-2013-01-20T15:56:00.000Z","replies":[]}}-->
The introduction claims that the castle “is the second largest castle in the United Kingdom”.
(A reference is given but to a book with no way of verifying the specifics of the statement.)
I was suspicious since it doesn’t obviously look to be the the second largest “castle” (noting that defining what is meant is not trivial) and sure enough the article later makes clear that it is the second largest *site*... which i would suggest is different to most people’s idea of largest castle (even allowing for structure vs wider structures and defences).
Can’t be certain of course but this looks to be a bit of local pride rather than an accurate encyclopaedia entry!
Better would be to say something like: “...the defences and system of lakes, dams and associated defences are extensive and the site is the second largest castle site in the UK [ref].” — Preceding unsigned comment added by Iainmacg (talk • contribs) 12:45, 5 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2020-02-05T12:45:00.000Z","author":"Iainmacg","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Iainmacg-2020-02-05T12:45:00.000Z-Second_largest?","replies":["c-2A02:C7C:BCEB:3500:3D0F:953A:663C:9CB5-20241206092200-Iainmacg-2020-02-05T12:45:00.000Z"]}}-->
It seems to be "local pride" from yourself, rather than in the wikipedia entry, which is causing you to make this comment. I know many people for some strange reason- it seems to be a weird form of "local pride" - don't like anything Welsh being talked of in any such way (anything that cn be seen as reflecting well on Wales - even "large castle" would come under this), but the castle is effing enormous. The water defences are incredible. They tower over you, they are obviously an integral, defended part of the castle. To say the castle doesn't "look to be the second largest "castle"" is such a weird thing to say that it demonstrates your thinking being corrupted by your "local pride". You are right you "can't be certain". Try and comment on stuff which you are certain about, rather than popping up and making useless comments based on your local pride. 2A02:C7C:BCEB:3500:3D0F:953A:663C:9CB5 (talk) 09:22, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20241206092200","author":"2A02:C7C:BCEB:3500:3D0F:953A:663C:9CB5","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-2A02:C7C:BCEB:3500:3D0F:953A:663C:9CB5-20241206092200-Iainmacg-2020-02-05T12:45:00.000Z","replies":[]}}-->
