Sudha Reddy is an Indian businesswoman, entrepreneur, and philanthropist.[1] She is the director of the MEIL Group (Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Limited),[2] a business conglomerate headquartered in Hyderabad, India, founded in 1989 by P. P. Reddy and her husband P.V. Krishna Reddy. Sudha is also the chairperson of the Sudha Reddy Foundation.[3][4]
She has received several awards, including the national Champions of Change in 2022, and the Woman Pioneer of the Year Award by AsiaOne in Dubai for her philanthropic work in 2023.
Early life and education
Sudha Reddy, born on December 10, 1978, in Vuyyuru, Andhra Pradesh, grew up in a simple family with her parents, grandparents, and elder sister. Her father, K. B. Reddy, worked at the State Bank of India and her grandparents had an agricultural background. Sudha completed her primary education in Vuyyuru itself, pursued a degree in microbiology, but later followed her passion for fashion by earning a degree at NIFT.[1]
Career
Following her marriage to Krishna Reddy, Sudha Reddy assumed responsibilities related to the family's properties and investments.
MEIL
Sudha's involvement eventually led to her role as a director, attained through collaboration on various projects with MEIL. As a director, her primary focus was on MEIL's corporate social outreach, community collaboration, wellness programs, and ventures in the hospitality sector.[5]
She played a role in the establishment of the SR Foundation.[6] The foundation is also involved in initiatives related to education enhancement, scholarships, and the empowerment of marginalized communities.[7]
The SR Foundation worked with various foundations, such as UNICEF, to improve adolescent care in specific states in India. This included partnerships with Eva Longoria and the Global Gift Foundation for initiatives benefiting underprivileged children affected by chronic diseases. Also, there was collaboration with Elizabeth Hurley to support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.[2][8]
2022: Sudha received the Fashion 4 Development Philanthropy Award, becoming the first Indian to be honored, presented at the 2nd Annual Sustainable Goals Banquet alongside the 77th UN General Assembly.[1][16]
2023: Asia One Award at the 20th Asia-Africa Business and Social Forum in Dubai[17]
2023: Woman Pioneer of the Year 2023 Award for contributions to the fields of business and philanthropy.[17]
2023: She was featured on the cover of Tycoon Global Media & Magazines in December, and she appeared on Season 10 of ET Now's Leaders of Tomorrow.[1]
