Gbemisola Scarlet Gomez professionally known as Scarlet Gomez, is a Nigerian Actress, known for her lead role in the 2023 Showmax Original telenovela-series Wura.[1] In 2012, she won the Miss United Nations Tourism pageant in Kingston, Jamaica.[2]
Early life and career
Gbemisola Scarlet Shotade was born to Nigerian parents in Surulere, Lagos.[3] Her Dad, Adetokunbo "Toks" Shotade[3] was a renowned Music Producer, and Sound Engineer, who influenced her early musical career. She had her primary education at Princeton School, and her secondary education at Ogunlade College.[3] For her tertiary education, Scarlet studied Business Administration from the University of Lagos, where she obtained a bachelor's degree in Business Administration.[4] She was involved in a lot of pageantries including Miss Nigeria, Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria, and Miss Global Nigeria, which she finished as a First Runner up.
In 2012, she participated in the Miss United Nations Tourism pageant in Kingston, Jamaica and won the pageant. In 2013, Scarlet went into the music industry briefly, as a music video model and made her first debut on Timi Dakolo's "Love Song", Lynxxx's "Eziokwu", Naeto C's "Bartender", and Burna Boy's "Run My Race" video.[5] In the same year, she debuts her single; presented and produced by DJ Klem, titled "Catch Me",[6] before venturing into Nollywood. In 2014, she made her acting debut on the Africa Magic original Scarlet.[7][5] In 2016, Scarlet debuted her studio album titled The Scarlet Letter[8] released through Knighthouse Entertainment.
In the same year, she was recruited by Africa Magic to join the set of the M-Net production drama series My Flatmates.[8] On 4 January 2023, Showmax announced Scarlet as the lead actor of its first Nigerian telenovela series Wura, to premiere on 23 January.[9] On 16 April 2023, Wura earned Scarlet a nomination at the 2023 Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards, in the Best Actress in a Drama, Movie Or TV Series category.[10] On 20 May 2023, Scarlet lost the AMVCA award to Osas Ighodaro for her role in Man of God.[11]
Personal life
On 15 April 2017, Scarlet Gomez married Temi Gomez, a Nigerian record producer.[12] On Sunday, June 16, 2019, they had their first child Eli Gomez, who eventually passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2019, and was buried the same day at Ikoyi.[13]
