Ghanaian highlife musician, songwriter, and former public servant
Nana Boakye Ofori-Atta (born 14 February 1955), known as Pozo Hayes, is a Ghanaian highlife musician, songwriter, and former public servant. He is known for one of his popular songs Akeka Akeka.[1][2] He has been featured on many stages and has performed with the Ramblers International Band, Jermaine Jackson, Dela Botri, Pat Thomas, Gyedu-Blay Ambolley, Nana Fynn, Bessa Simons, Tagoe Sisters, Paulina Oduro among others.
Early life
Hayes was born on 14 February 1955 in Kokomlemle, a suburb of Accra, Ghana. His parents were Aaron Eugene Kofi Asante Ofori Atta and Christiana Adwoa Agyekum. His father was a former minister of Justice and former minister of local government, and former speaker of parliament in the first Republic. He attended New Nation Preparatory School at Nima, Accra, K.A 1 Boys' Middle School at Kaneshie-Awudome, Accra, and went to the St. Martin's Secondary School at Adoagyiri, Nsawam.[3]
Career
Hayes started singing at a young age and performed songs by known artists during his school days in the late 1960s and 1970s. He formed a band called “XYZ” after he performed a song by James Brown at an inter-school competition in secondary school. Hayes began his professional music career in 1975. Nigerian singer Sonny Okosun inspired him to become a full-time musician after he shared a stage with him as he performed at Kokomlemle in Accra.[4] He has performed with the Ramblers International Band in the 1980s, American singer and bassist Jermaine Jackson of Jackson 5 group at the Accra Sports Stadium in the 1990s, Dela Botri, Pat Thomas, Nana Fynn among other top artists.[1]

Recognition
In December 2021, ML Brookshire Eghan founded and launched the Clubhouse Ghana Foundation. And Pozo Hayes was one of the significant artistes who took part in the launch via Zoom.
