Playa Barrio is a rural barrio in the municipality of Guayanilla, Puerto Rico. Its population in 2010 was 1,186.[3][4]

Features and demographics

Playa has .52 square miles (1.3 km2) of land area and .62 square miles (1.6 km2) of water area. In 2010, its population was 1,186 with a population density of 2,280.8 inhabitants per square mile (880.6/km2).[5]

History

Playa was in Spain's gazetteers[11] until Puerto Rico was ceded by Spain in the aftermath of the Spanish–American War under the terms of the Treaty of Paris of 1898 and became an unincorporated territory of the United States. In 1899, the United States Department of War conducted a census of Puerto Rico finding that the combined population of Magas and Playa barrios was 962.[12]
