Pete Draper is a British visual effects designer, and supervisor known for his works predominantly in Telugu cinema, and few Tamil, Hindi and Hollywood.[1][2] Draper is the co-founder and former creative head of Makuta VFX, one of India's leading visual effects studios.[3]

Draper fetched the National Film Award for Best Special Effects, the Nandi Award for Best Special Effects, and Filmfare Award for Best VFX – South for Eega (2012) featured at the Toronto After Dark Film Festival.[4][5] In 2024, he was honoured with the V. Shantaram Lifetime Achievement Award at the 19th Mumbai International Film Festival.[6][7]

Career

Pete Draper began his career in visual effects in the United Kingdom before relocating to India in 2009.[8] He co-founded Makuta VFX in Hyderabad, where he led the studio's creative direction and visual effects production for several landmark Indian films.[9]

Under Draper's leadership, Makuta VFX became known for its work on films such as Magadheera, Eega, Baahubali: The Beginning, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, RRR, Pushpa: The Rise and Sita Ramam.[10][11]

In interviews, Draper has advocated practical, skills-based education over formal qualifications for careers in the visual effects industry.[12]
