Academic journal
Ocean-Land-Atmosphere Research (OLAR) is a peer-reviewed and diamond open access journal in marine, terrestrial, and atmospheric studies. Founded in 2021, it is published in affiliation with Southern Marine Science and Engineering Guangdong Laboratory (Zhuhai) (SML) and published by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).[1][2] It is the first academic journal in oceanography under the Science Partner Journal (AAAS SPJ) program.[3] OLAR is editorially independent from the Science family of journals and SML is responsible for all content published in the journal, which is published under Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY) on a continuous basis.[2]
Aims and scope
Ocean-Land-Atmosphere Research (OLAR) is launched to serve the scientific community and promote technological innovation in earth system sciences, with a focus on the ocean, land, and atmosphere interaction in particular. Prof. Robert W. Howarth, co-editor-in-chief of OLAR, emphasized that understanding the interactions between the ocean and atmosphere and between land and the oceans is critical to better understanding these consequences and how they may change in the future.[1] OLAR aims to provide science a channel that can help in this discussion of how to best manage the world's oceans into the future.[4] The journal waives the article processing charge for all authors during the first three years of establishment.[3]
Editors
The journal has two editors-in-chief, Dake Chen (Chinese name: 陈大可; Chinese Academy of Sciences) and Robert W. Howarth (Cornell University).[5][6]
Abstracting and indexing
The journal is abstracted and indexed in Scopus and DOAJ.[7]
Conferences
As one of the publication partners of Ocean Negative Carbon Emissions (ONCE) program, OLAR launched a special section focusing on marine carbon cycle and climate evolution theory, key processes, mechanisms, and technologies for negative emissions.[8] Southern Marine Science and Engineering Guangdong Laboratory (Zhuhai) (SML), the sponsor of OLAR, organized the 21st Pacific-Asian Marginal Seas (PAMS) Meeting held on 13–15 May 2024 in Zhuhai, China.[9] OLAR also participated in the 21st annual meeting of Asia Oceania Geosciences Society (AOGS) as an exhibitor.[10]
