Settlement in Greece
Neos Zygos (Greek: Νέος Ζυγός, before 2022: Prosfyges, Greek: Πρόσφυγες, lit. 'refugees')[2] is a settlement located 12 km northwest of Kavala[3] at an altitude of 99 meters above sea level. It is built near and west of the EO Kavala – Drama, between the villages of Zygos (South), Palaia Kavala (Southwest), Amygdaleona (North) and Polystylo (East). The settlement was created with a government grant for the housing of expatriates returned Pontian Greeks[4] from the Soviet Union.[5] From 1990 to 1993, 110 families were settled.[6] It was recognized as a settlement in 1991, part of the community of Zygos.[7] As a part of the Kapodistrias reform, it became part of the municipality of Filippoi in 1997.[7] Since the implementation of the 2010 Kallikratis Programme, together with Zygos it constitutes the municipal community of Zygos which belongs to the municipal unit of Filippoi of the municipality of Kavala.[7] According to the 2021 census it has a population of 365 inhabitants.[1]
Sport
The village has two Athletic Associations of Freestyle Wrestling[8] (Alexander the Great[9] and Pontos[10]), And a Football team called Helidoni ( Greek: Χελιδόνι, English: Hirundo), which ceased to exist in 2017.
Infrastructure
In addition, it has a new Personal weather station,[11] which, based on information,[12] is the first station in the eastern part of the Kavala plain, as well as the first station in the network that measures the intensity of total solar radiation[13]
