Turning Point
Zabuli's life took a significant turn at the age of 19. An unintended pregnancy with a Muslim man with whom she did not foresee a future presented a significant challenge. The memory of her mother's recent widowhood and her warnings about the importance of family and responsibility weighed heavily on her. Zabuli felt a profound sense of guilt and selfishness, perceiving the pregnancy as a betrayal of both her mother's expectations and her own aspirations.[6]
Unwilling to face the perceived consequences of motherhood, Zabuli attempted to self-induce an abortion. When this failed, she sought medical assistance. However, during the medical procedure, Zabuli experienced a severe medical complication, leading to a near-death experience.[7]
