The Muş Plain (Turkish: Muş Ovası; Kurdish: Deşta Mûşe; Armenian: Մշոյ դաշտ), is located in the northeast of the city center of Muş. It is one of the largest plains in Turkey. At the eastern end of the plain is the İron Sazlığı wetland and Mount Nemrut. The plain is largely an agricultural area.[1]
Etymology
According to a rumor, the name Muş was given to the city by one of the Hebrew tribes who escaped from the Assyrians and came to the Muş region. As a matter of fact, in the 1914 Bitlis Province Salname, it was claimed that the name Muş came from the Hebrew word "Muşa", which means "Wetland fertile and pasture". The fact that the Muş has a lush and wet plain since history shows that this rumor is not entirely unfounded, but is based on a relatively specific fact.[2]
