At the time of the 2006 National Census, the rural district's population (as Darrehyam Rural District of the former Khoshab District of Sabzevar County) was 10,607 in 2,660 households.[5] There were 5,078 inhabitants in 1,320 households at the following census of 2011,[6] by which time the district had been separated from the county in the establishment of Khoshab County.[3] The rural district was transferred to the new Meshkan District as Meshkan Rural District. The 2016 census measured the population of the rural district as 5,333 in 1,565 households. The most populous of its 14 villages was Meshkan (now a city),[7] with 3,540 people.[2]
