Marang Kayu (Indonesian pronunciation:[ˈmaraŋˈkaju]) is a district of Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan, Indonesia. As of 2023, it was inhabited by 29,244 people, and currently has the total area of 866.20 km2.[2] Its district seat is located at the village of Sebuntal.[2]
Marang Kayu borders Bontang to the northeast and East Kutai Regency to the northwest. The district was formed on 11 June 1996 from the northern parts of Muara Badak, and it initially consisted of 5 villages: Sabuntal, Kersik, Santan Ulu, Central Santan, and Santan Ilir (three of them were transferred from the outgoing district of Bontang in 1989).[1]
