Lynn Ngugi is a Kenyan journalist and media personality. She was one of the BBC's 100 inspiring women, a change ambassador and a woman of the year.

Life

Ngugi grew up in Haruma, which is an area of north-east Nairobi, which has been called a slum.[1] Her mother and her three sisters shared a room. Her mother was a shoes salesperson. In 2004, she left secondary education[citation needed] and began studying journalism at the East Africa School of Media Studies.[2]

Ngugi worked for a few years in Qatar and Dubai.[2]

She volunteered to care for cancer patients.[3] In 2011, she began to gain influence on social media, first with Kiwo films and then with the Qatar Foundation.[citation needed] He worked at Tuko until 2021.[4] when she decided to launch her own channel which soon gathered 100,000 subscribers.[5]

She was awarded the Cafe Ngoma humanitarian journalist of the year award in 2020.[3]

In July 2021, she was appointed an Ambassador for Change for the Commonwealth of Nations.[4] She was included in the BBC's list of the 100 most influential women of 2021[3] together with fellow Kenyan Halima Aden and writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and lawyer Oluyemi Adetiba-Orija from Nigeria.[6]

In 2024 she was included in the East Africa Women of Excellence Awards as the Media Personality of the Year Award.[7]
