List of Chi Phi chapters

Chi Phi fraternity was established at Princeton University in 1824.[1] The modern men's collegiate fraternity formed from the merger of their organizations that were each known as Chi Phi.[1] As further explained in the main article, Chi Phi came from the following branches:[1]

  1. Chi Phi Society (1824–1825)
  2. Princeton Order (1854–1867)
  3. Southern Order (1858–1874)
  4. Hobart Order, or Secret Order (1860–1867)
  5. Northern Order (1867–1874), combining the Princeton and Hobart Orders
  6. United Order (1874), the current Chi Phi Fraternity, after the merger of the Northern and Southern Orders.

In the following list, active chapters are indicated in bold and inactive chapters, institutions, and branches of the fraternity are shown in italics.[1]

  15. ^ This chapter was formed by absorbing the Beta chapter of a two-chapter regional fraternity named Alpha DiGamma which was established in 1864. It had been expelled from that order in 1868 "because of the disgraceful conduct of some of its members." (Baird's Manual, 1st Ed), and joined the Northern Order of Chi Phi five years after leaving Alpha DiGamma. The chapter was re-established in 1911 by absorbing Delta Rho Tau which was established in 1910. It was reformed as a colony in 1973 and 2017.

Similarly, Phi Gamma Delta was Vernon Hall which later became Myth and Sword. Sigma Delta Chi (local) was renamed the Cloister Club which soon became Book and Snake. Theta Xi's chapter was Franklin Hall, Phi Sigma Kappa adopted the name Sachem Hall, and Delta Psi adopted the name St. Anthony Hall which spread to their entire small but old national fraternity. Chi Delta Theta (local literary honorary) established the Manuscript Society, Psi Upsilon became the Fence Club, and finally, Delta Phi was known at Yale as St. Elmo's.
