John was the eldest son of John le Strange and Joan de Somery.[1] He fought in the wars in Wales, Gascony and Scotland.[2] He was a signatory of the Baron's Letter to Pope Boniface VIII in 1301.

John married firstly Alianora, daughter of Eubolo de Montz and Joan de Bohun, they had the following issue:
