Early life and college career

Engle grew up in Edina, Minnesota, the daughter of Patricia and Ryan Engle, and has three brothers. She played high school soccer for Edina High School, which she helped reach the state semifinals in 2021, finish runner-up in 2022, and go undefeated 22–0 and claim the state championship in 2023. She totaled 41 goals with 11 assists that year, including a hat trick in a 4–2 win in the semifinals and a brace in a 2–1 win in the final. She was named a United Soccer Coaches All-American, Minnesota Star Tribune Metro Player of the Year, and Minnesota Gatorade Player of the Year.[3][4] She committed to the University of Notre Dame as a junior.[5] She also competed in high school track and field.[6] She played club soccer for Minnesota Thunder Academy, where she was a five-time ECNL first-team all-conference selection.[6]

Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Engle scored a hat trick against Samford in her second game for Notre Dame Fighting Irish, which made her the first Notre Dame freshman with a hat trick since Melissa Henderson in 2008.[7] She recorded six multi-goal games in the 2024 season, including a brace in a 3–3 draw against No. 1 Duke.[8] She scored three goals in four games of the NCAA tournament, helping lead Notre Dame to the quarterfinals.[6] She finished the season a national-second-best 19 goals in 22 games, the most goals by a freshman since 2014. She was named the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Freshman of the Year, first-team All-ACC, and TopDrawerSoccer National Freshman of the Year.[9][8]

International career

Engle was called into camp with the national under-17 team in 2023.[5] She was included as an alternate to the under-19 team at the 2023 Pan American Games, where they won bronze playing against other countries' senior teams.[10]
