At the time of the 2006 National Census, the rural district's population (as a part of Kakavand District) was 6,400 in 1,196 households.[6] There were 5,864 inhabitants in 1,196 households at the following census of 2011.[7] The 2016 census measured the population of the rural district as 5,150 in 1,299 households. The most populous of its 77 villages was Kahriz-e Varvasht, with 670 people.[2]
In March 2022, Itivand-e Jonubi and Itivand-e Shomali Rural Districts were separated from the district in the establishment of Itivand District.[3]
