Harinarayanpur Bahumukhi High School or Harinarayanpur Multipurpose High School (Bengali: হরিনারায়ণপুর বহুমুখী উচ্চ বিদ্যালয়) is a secondary school located in Harinarayanpur of Sadar Upazila of Kushtia District.[1] The school was built during the British period and was an educational institution recognized by Calcutta University at that time.
History
In 1891, the school was established on the west bank of Kaliganga River by the joint initiative of the residents of Harinarayanpur village. Kalidas Chakraborty, Ramgopal Bhattacharya, Kalidas Bhattacharya Tarkalankar, Harishchandra Chowdhury, Navin Chowdhury and Lolitmohan Pramanik are among those who played a special role in the establishment of the school in Harinarayanpur village. Apart from Harinarayanpur village, residents of some nearby villages also played a role in establishing the school. Among them the names of Umanath Sen of Bardi village, Shivnath Majumder, Krishnanath Sarkar, Dharpur resident Gopal Chandra Bhowmik, Gopinath Sanyal Shantidanga resident Mahima Chandra Biswas and Sadhucharan Biswas are mentioned.
At first, school activities started in thatched houses. The thatched house was set on fire several times due to conflict between divided villagers. In 1900, Kushtia Sub-Divisional Administrator Biren Sen took the initiative to establish the school in a paved building. In 1902, he laid the foundation of paved building. The construction of which was completed in 1908. In 1909, the school was recognized by Calcutta University as Harinarayanpur H.E. School.
