Career
College and amateur
Monroe played for the Siena Saints in the 2018 season.[1] He started all 18 games in between the sticks. Monroe had to make a record 10 saves in one game in the 2–1 loss to Lafayette College.[2] He saved another 7 shots in the 1–1 draw with Holy Cross Crusaders.[3] In the 2019 season, he was loaned out to Kingston Stockade FC, a semi-professional team in the National Premier Soccer League. He played in the 1–1 draw with Brooklyn and was awarded the Man of the Match for his 9 saves.[4][5]
Monroe returned to Sienna for the 2019 season, where he was given the captain's armband.[6][7] In the season finale, he put in a notable performance, making 5 saves and keeping a clean sheet in the 0–0 tie with the Manhattan Jaspers.[8] In the 2020 season, Monroe was honored on the 2020 MAAC All-Academic list.[9] He won the Golden Glove in 2022.[10]
Monroe never made an appearance for the MLS Next Pro side and subsequently joined USL Championship side Hartford Athletic.[13][14] He made his debut in the 1–0 loss to the Tampa Bay Rowdies, coming off the bench with 6 minutes to go for the injured Renan Ribeiro.[15] In a game against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, Monroe made a mistake after taking too much time to play a pass, allowing ex-teammate EJ Johnson to slide and intercept Monroe's pass, hitting it into the empty net.[16][17][18] Monroe left the club after the expiration of his contract following the 2024 season.[19]
