German School Brooklyn (GSB, German: Deutsche Schule Brooklyn) is an international school in Crown Heights, Brooklyn in New York City offering a dynamic German and Spanish immersion program for a global community of students from Preschool through Middle School.
GSB is thrilled to add a Spanish immersion program to our school beginning with our Preschool and Kindergarten classes in September 2025. After a decade of successful German language immersion, we are excited to open our doors, literally and figuratively, to a broader local and global community.
History
Christine Krabs co-founded the school.[2] with Katrin Nagle and Muriel Plag. It opened with grades Kindergarten through 2 in 2014, and has plans to expand to grade 12.[3] As of June 2023, the school has graduated 3 8th grade classes. The school has plans for a 9-12 grade system, but has not yet received enough enrollment to successfully launch the upper grades.
The school was previously on the fifth floor of the Union Temple of Brooklyn in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn. The school was not a part of the temple's congregation even though they shared a building.[4] By 2021, its interim location was the former Coop School in the Bedford Stuyvesant and Clinton Hill area. In 2021, the school moved all levels to its new site at 9 Hanover Place in Downtown Brooklyn.[5] In January 2023, the school once again relocated to their new, very own building on 760 Sterling Place in Crown Heights.
