Fahad Abdulrahman Badar (Arabic: فهد عبدالرحمن بادار) (born 1979) is a Qatari banker and mountaineer. He is the first Arab to summit Mount Everest and Lhotse, in a single expedition.[2][3]

Early life

Fahad Badar was born in 1979 in Doha, Qatar. Growing up in a family that valued perseverance and excellence, he exhibited strong academic and athletic inclinations. Inspired by a sense of adventure and determination, Fahad pursued his education in the United Kingdom, earning a bachelor’s degree in Banking and Finance from Bangor University. He later obtained an MBA from Durham University, specializing in global finance and management. His formative years fostered a drive to excel in high-pressure environments, both in his professional career and personal pursuits.[4][5]

Mountain climbing career

Fahad’s mountaineering journey began in 2018 as an exploration of physical and mental endurance. Despite balancing a demanding career, he trained rigorously, summiting some of the most challenging peaks in the world. His feats are regarded as groundbreaking, especially after overcoming a catastrophic injury during one of his expeditions.

  • Historic Double Summit (23 May 2019): Became the first Arab to summit both Mount Everest (8,848 meters) and Mount Lhotse (8,516 meters) within 24 hours during a single expedition.[7][8]
  • (January 2020) Mount Ama Dablam (6,812 meters), a technical climb in Nepal, known for its steep ridges and iconic status in the Himalayas.Climbing with his friend Omani climber Nadhira Al Harthy. She became the first Arab woman to scale the peak.[10] [11][12]
  • (July 2021) he climbed Broad Peak mountain in Pakistan and during the expedition he lost four fingers to severe frostbite.[6][13] Badar reached the summit of Mount K2 in July 2022.[14][15][16][17][18]
