Europalink is a 218.8-metre Star-class Ro-Pax ferry built in 2007 by Fincantieri and operated by Grimaldi Lines on the Igoumenitsa–Brindisi route. Briefly delivered as Finnlady, the 46,124 GT ice-class vessel features a 48,000 kW plant delivering 25 knots and has spent her career rotating across Grimaldi Group subsidiaries, including Finnlines and Minoan Lines, across the Baltic and Mediterranean seas.

Service

Launched on 3 June 2006 with the name Finnlady at the Fincantieri shipyard in Castellammare di Stabia and delivered on 9 March 2007 to Finnlines with the name Europalink, she entered service on 30 March on the routes between Malmö and Travemünde under the flag of Nördo-Link.[1]

On 14 April 2009 it was transferred to the Helsinki - Travemünde routes. Since 2 June 2009 he has also been climbing occasionally in Gdynia. In October 2009 it entered service on the connections between Travemünde, Rostock, Gdynia and Helsinki.[1]

On 20 October 2012 it was transferred to the shipyard in Yalova, where it underwent refitting works. On 26 November it was transferred to Grimaldi Lines and immediately chartered to Minoan Lines. On 2 December it entered service on the connections between Patras, Igoumenitsa, Brindisi, Ancona and Trieste.[2]

On 21 September 2014, it ran aground on a coral reef off Corfu and began taking on water.[3][4] The ferry, however, managed to reach Corfu without further problems. It was later towed to Yalova and repaired. From September 2015 to 26 January 2018 it operated on the connections between Livorno and Palermo. On the same day it returned to being employed under the Finnlines flag and on 31 January it set sail from Palermo for Malmö, where it arrived on 9 February.[5]

February 2018 it starts service on the connections between Malmö and Travemünde. In April 2018, she underwent refitting work at a shipyard in Gdansk, during which scrubbers were added to her smokestack. She returned to regular service on 6 May.[6] From 27 December 2018 to January 2019, it operated on the Helsinki - Travemünde route. It then returned to service on its own route.[2][7]

On 17 July 2021, while sailing to Travemünde, a fire broke out in a cabin of the ferry, which was quickly put out by the crew after the evacuation of the passengers.[8] On 26 December 2021, it will be transferred to the Helsinki - Travemünde route.[9] On 10 January 2022 it starts service on the connections between Naantali, Långnäs and Kappelskär.[5][10][11]

On 18 September 2023 it returns to service on the Malmö – Travemünde line. From 23 December 2023 to 16 January 2024 it operated on the Travemünde - Helsinki route. From the following day it returned to service on the connections to Malmö.[12] On 25 January 2024 the service for Finnlines ended and on 29 January it sailed from Malmö to Naples, where it arrived on 9 February.

On February 16 it was transferred to Grimaldi Lines and raised the Italian flag. On 25 February it sailed from Naples to Igoumenitsa and four days later it took over the connections between Brindisi and Igoumenitsa as a replacement for the Igoumenitsa, where it still operates today.[13][14][15]
