Xander Richard James Martin was born on 9 October 2003 at John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. Shortly after his birth, Martin spent the first three years of his life in regional New South Wales, in the town of Werris Creek. At the age of four, he relocated to the Central Coast (New South Wales), where he has spent the majority of his life.

Martin developed an interest in music during his childhood after being introduced by his mother to a variety of artists and bands that influenced his creative direction. His early musical influences included rappers such as Eminem, Tupac Shakur, and Coolio, alongside artists including Michael Jackson, Tracy Chapman, and James Blunt. He was also influenced by rock and alternative bands including Guns N’ Roses, Nirvana, Silverchair, Metallica, and Red Hot Chili Peppers. These influences contributed to his appreciation for songwriting, storytelling, musicianship, and different approaches to performance.

Martin attended Gorokan High School, completing Year 11 before leaving school early in 2020. Following high school, he spent several years working in the trade industry while continuing to develop his music independently.

From 2020 to 2022, Martin worked alongside his uncle in a lawn-mowing business before transitioning into construction labour from 2022 to 2025. During this period, music remained a major creative pursuit, with Martin developing his abilities in songwriting, recording, production, and engineering while balancing employment outside of the music industry.

In 2025, Martin commenced a Diploma of Music at SAE Institute in Sydney, studying areas including music production, recording, studio engineering, and contemporary music practices.

Martin began releasing music at 14 years old in 2018 under the stage name YUNGXAN. During this period, he primarily created melodic rap and emotionally driven music, drawing inspiration from artists such as Juice WRLD and The Kid LAROI. The project represented his early development as an artist, allowing him to experiment with songwriting, vocal performance, and modern melodic hip-hop styles.

Although music remained an important creative outlet, the YUNGXAN project was initially pursued alongside other commitments rather than as a full-time professional career.

In 2026, Martin reinvented himself as Xpire, introducing a new artistic direction focused on lyricism, technical rap ability, and a more traditional hip-hop approach. The transition represented a move away from his earlier melodic style towards influences rooted in artists such as Eminem, J. Cole, Nas, and Kendrick Lamar.

As Xpire, Martin approaches music as a professional career, taking responsibility for multiple aspects of the creative process. His roles include rapper, songwriter, producer, studio engineer, mixing/mastering engineer, and creative director, allowing him to maintain involvement from the initial concept of a song through to the final release.

Xpire is scheduled to make his live performance debut during the Coast to Capital 2026 NSW Tour, appearing as one of multiple headliners across all three scheduled performances.
