Tami Hart is an American feminist musician from Beaufort, SC. Hart currently resides in Brooklyn, New York.[1]

Music

Solo Records

Inspired by other projects (Team Dresch, Sleater-Kinney), Hart released her first studio album, No Light in August, on Kaia Wilson and Tammy Rae Carland's label, Mr. Lady.[2][3] No Light in August gained national attention after Ann Powers and Neil Strauss featured it in the New York Times' article on "The Pop Life: Undeservedly Obscure; Pop Critics List the Worthwhile Albums Most People Missed."[4] Ann Powers stated that "[Hart's] youth lends solemnity to her preternatural wisdom, and she sings and plays acoustic guitar with the fervor of the loudest punk rock"[4] Hart's recent solo releases take on country influences, tied to her upbringing in a conservative, working-class family in South Carolina, with little to no access to the punk and music world.[1]

MEN

In 2011, Hart joined musical group MEN (with JD Samson and Johanna Fateman from one Mr. Lady's artists, Le Tigre) in place of Ginger Brooks Takahashi[5]

Making Friendz

Hart released the album Social Life on Last Bummer Records out of loneliness. Social Life was described in a Culture Brats article as "a mixture of fuzzy lo-fi, early '80s synth, disco, and punk."[6] Hart described in a Philthy Mag article that starting the band was a way to build community in her new home of New York[7][6].

Other projects

Hart later played in other music groups/projects such as Gangway, Winning Looks, Heathers, Stink Ladies, DSL, and Sextional.[2][7][8][9][10].

Tami Hart was mentioned in Le Tigre's song Hot Topic.[11]
