The StoneAge Number Scale is a mathematical naming system for extremely large numbers, created by Dutch developer Ivo de Gier in 2026. The system defines one hundred named magnitudes based on prehistoric animals, ordered by estimated body size, in honour of these great animals. Each name is formed by shortening the animal’s name and adding the suffix “Plex”.
The scale is designed as a conceptual extension of large-number naming systems such as the googol, googolplex, and Conway–Guy’s fast-growing hierarchies. The StoneAge Scale introduces a structured, memorable taxonomy for magnitudes far beyond conventional notation.
- Structure
Each StoneAge number corresponds to a magnitude defined as:

where n ranges from 1 to 100. The index n is assigned according to the approximate size ranking of the prehistoric animal associated with the name.
