Space Base is a dice-driven engine building board game designed by John D. Clair and published in 2018 by Alderac Entertainment Group (AEG). Players take on the roles of Commodores building and managing a fleet of spaceships across 12 numbered sectors. Through dice rolls that benefit all players and strategic ship drafting and deployment, participants construct powerful engines to accumulate victory points. The first to reach 40 points ends the game and wins promotion to Admiral.

Each player receives a personal board with 12 sectors numbered 1–12. The game starts with a small starting fleet of ships already docked in these sectors. On their turn, the active player rolls two six-sided dice and chooses to activate sectors either by assigning the dice values individually (or the same sector twice on doubles) or by using the sum of the dice for a single sector.^[1]

When a sector is activated:

• All players gain benefits from ships in that sector.
• The active player uses the face-up (blue) abilities of their ships.
• Other players use the flipped (red) abilities of deployed ships.
• Some green abilities may affect everyone.

After resolving the dice roll, the active player may spend credits earned from abilities to purchase a new ship card from the central supply rows (Shipyard or Colony). The new ship is placed into one of the sectors, deploying (flipping upward) the previous ship there. This shifts its primary benefit of the deployed ship to activate on opponents' rolls, creating ongoing interaction and engine management decisions.^[1]

Play continues until one player reaches 40 victory points (represented by rockets/influence). A final round is then played, and the player with the most points is declared the winner. The game typically lasts 45–60 minutes for 2–5 players.^[1]

• Command Station provides organizational components and added player count.
• Genesis adds card variety and a few simple rules.
