Comment: There are many striking, very obvious flaws that need fixing, including, but not limited to:
• External links in the article's body
• Link-spam attempts (Wikipedia has been href no-follow since 2007 btw, cf. meta:nofollow)
• Way too many references to non-sources, e.g. egtatechhub, yospace, LinkedIn; (see WP:SIRS for what is deemed a source that indicates a company's Wikipedia notability)
• An awful citation style (refer to WP:CITEHOW). In most German states schools teach how to make citations, which is, frankly, why I am a bit surprised to this such a footnote disaster here
• No references section
• A ridiculously unencylcopedic focus on meaningless awards that makes the article very biased (i.e., not in compliance with WP:NPOV)

Introduction
smartclip is a German ad tech company founded in 2008, headquartered in Hamburg. It has been majority-owned by RTL Deutschland (a part of RTL Group) since 2016.[1] The company provides advertising technology services, including ad serving and supply-side platforms.[2]
History
smartclip was founded in 2008 by Roland Schaber and Jean-Pierre Fumagalli.[3] According to Adzine, a publication focused on digital marketing, the company initially focused on digital video advertising solutions for publishers in Germany.
In 2011, the global advertising network Adconion Media Group acquired smartclip.[4] The following year, the company introduced smartx, an ad serving and SSP sales house solution.[5] In 2014, when Adconion was sold to Amobee, smartclip was not part of the transaction.[6]
smartclip was acquired by Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland to strengthen RTL’s position as a major sales house for (digital) video advertising and its technological capabilities in Europe in 2016.[7] smartclip merged with SpotX in 2018.[8] In August 2019, RTL Group announced a reorganisation of its ad tech business, which saw Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland take over RTL’s European ad tech assets (except UK), bundled under the smartclip brand.[9]
In 2022, smartclip’s media sales division merged with RTL AdConnect and G&J iMS to form RTL AdAlliance.[10] Following this merger, smartclip became solely an adtech company and thus launched a new brand identity in 2023.[11]
Operations
smartclip is headquartered in Hamburg and has additional offices in Berlin, Munich, Düsseldorf, Cologne, Rheda-Wiedenbrück, Amsterdam, and Paris.[12]
Technology
smartclip operates the smartx platform, an advertising technology platform used by broadcasters and publishers. The platform integrates an ad server with a supply-side platform (SSP) and supports programmatic advertising across digital formats. The platform integrates an ad server with a supply-side platform (SSP) and supports programmatic advertising across digital formats.[13][14]
Acquisitions and Partnerships
smartclip announced a technology partnership with RTL Hungary in 2025 that involved the adoption of smartclip’s smartx platform for digital and linear advertising.[15][16]
smartclip also partnered with RTL Radio Deutschland in 2024 to deliver audio advertising on more than 530 digital streams of national and regional radio stations throughout Germany.[17]
smartclip began integrating its advertising technology into M6 Publicité's adtech stack to support Groupe M6’s streaming revenue goal by 2028. This collaboration introduced a combined platform for streaming and Addressable TV.[18] [19]
