Sharika Chauhan is a British-Indian children's author, entrepreneur, and founder based in London, England. She is the creator, author and chief executive officer of Maya's Worldly Wonders®, a multicultural travel adventure book series for children aged 5 to 11, inspired by her own travel adventures and expeditions across 45 countries, which has been featured across BBC Asian Network and multiple BBC radio broadcasts.^[1][2]

Chauhan grew up in Greater London with British-Indian heritage. She spent 17 years working in financial services and fintech, holding senior leadership roles including chief operating officer and co-founder of a fintech startup. During this period she travelled extensively as a solo traveller, visiting more than 45 countries.^[2][3]

The concept for Maya's Worldly Wonders® arose during a journey through Malaysia, where Chauhan identified the underrepresentation of South Asian girl protagonists in global, adventurous children's fiction. She left the financial services industry to develop the series.^[1][2]

The series follows Maya, a British-Indian girl, as she travels to a different country in each book, encountering local cultures, wildlife, and environments. The books blend adventure storytelling with themes of cultural diversity, environmental awareness, and animal conservation. The series is published by South Node Publishing Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of 11:22 HoldCo Ltd.^[2]

As of mid 2026, five books had been published in the series, set in Malaysia, Nepal, Brazil, Japan, and Sri Lanka. The books are available through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Google Books, and directly from the website, as well as being stocked by selected independent bookshops in London.^[3]

Her episode of BBC Asian Network's The Everyday Hustle, titled "Creating books for children: Sharika Chauhan", was presented by Harleen Nottay and produced by Voxwave, airing on 11 May 2026.^[1] She has also appeared on BBC Radio London,^[5] BBC Radio Cambridgeshire,^[6] and a further BBC regional broadcast.^[7]

Chauhan has been profiled in Luxurist Magazine.^[3] A double-page geography lesson plan featuring Maya's Worldly Wonders was published in Teach Primary magazine (Issue 20.4, May 2026), distributed to 8,000 UK primary schools.^[8] She has also appeared on Talk Radio Europe's The Book Show with presenter Hannah Murray.^[9]

Maya's Worldly Wonders was recognised as a finalist in the 2026 UK StartUp Awards in the London Creative category, selected from over 2,100 entries judged by more than 100 independent industry professionals.^[10]
