The Fort Wayne Reader is a good source, there is a lot in the Hickling source, but that seems to be a self-published memoir. Sam Agres (1941–2025) was an American painter and double bass player. As a musician, he performed with orchestras in the United States and abroad, including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Indiana Symphony Orchestra.[1], the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, the Illinois Symphony Orchestra, and the Orquesta de Bellas Artes in Mexico City[2] In addition, he performed as a jazz musician[3].

In his later years, Agres was based in Indianapolis and subsequently Fort Wayne, Indiana. During this period, he devoted increasing attention to painting and produced a large body of work, comprising more than 3,000 paintings, many of which depict Midwestern landscapes and scenes of everyday life[4]

Agres’s artwork was featured in regional newspapers and exhibitions[5], including shows at the Wunderkammer Gallery[6] in Fort Wayne.
