Introduction

Saltus is a wealth management firm headquartered in the United Kingdom. It provides financial planning and investment management services to private clients and institutions. The firm also produces the Saltus Wealth Index,[2] a survey-based measure of sentiment among high net worth individuals in the UK.

As of 2025, Saltus manages approximately £8.8bn in assets under management.[3]

History

Saltus was founded in 2004 by Jon Macintosh[4] and Simon Armstrong[5], initially serving a small number of private clients.

In 2005, Saltus launched Acencia Debt Strategies, a fund that operated until 2016.[6] In 2012, the firm expanded through a merger with Mercater.[7]   

In 2016, Saltus merged with Andrews Hammond Brady.[8] This merger led to the establishment of Saltus Financial Planning as a separately incorporated entity.  

In 2018, Saltus acquired Lorica, a Bournemouth-based wealth management firm.[9] The year after, the firm transitioned its custodian services from Jarvis Investment Management to Multrees.[10]

In 2021, Saltus acquired Consilia Wealth Management and Fish Financial.[11][12] The following year, the firm acquired NSL.[13] It also secured private equity backing from Preservation Capital Partners.[14]

In 2023, Saltus launched the Saltus Partnership Programme offering operational and administrative services to financial planning firms.[15][16]  The following year, Saltus completed the acquisition of Abacus Associates and two other businesses providing support for self-employed advisers in Hereford, Truro, and Kegworth.[17][18] This acquisition introduced a self-employed adviser arm to the company.

In 2025, Saltus acquired Lowes, based in the North East of England[19] and Delta Financial to its group of firms.[20] 

Operations

Saltus provides investment management, financial planning, pension planning, and tax and estate planning services. It provides financing and operation support for advisory businesses through its Partnership Programme.[21]  

Saltus operates across the UK including Bristol, Bath, Whiteley, Bournemouth, Elstree and Borehamwood, Farnham, Leigh-on-Sea, London, Newcastle, St Albans, Penarth and Wells. The firm also works with self-employed financial advisers through the Abacus adviser network, introduced in 2025.[22]

Saltus Wealth Index

Launched in 2021, the Saltus Wealth Index is a biannual barometer of the financial confidence and concerns of high net worth individuals in the UK.[23] The Saltus Wealth Index Report is the accompanying study that presents and interprets the index results and research.[24]

It is currently in its eighth iteration.

Methodology

The Saltus Wealth Index was developed in consultation with Dr Mike Peacey[25], a Senior Lecturer at the University of Bristol, and research from Censuswide.  

It is calculated using survey responses from over 2,000 individuals with at least £250,000 in investable assets and based on seven key indicators. It is expressed on a scale from 0 to 100, with higher scores indicating greater confidence.[26]
