STUGATS is an electronic music artist, record producer, and disc jockey (DJ) based in Utrecht, Netherlands. He has been active in the underground electronic music scene since late 2016. He is best known for his fast-paced, industrial soundscapes that fuse the modern elements of hard techno with the raw intensity of classic Dutch gabber and acid techno.
Early life and musical origins
STUGATS originally began his electronic music journey in late 2016.[1] His earliest production work and stylistic experiments began within genres such as 4x4, bassline, and UK garage. However, he subsequently shifted his focus toward the heavier techno spectrum.
He later moved to Utrecht, a major hub for electronic music in the Netherlands. To refine his craft in music production and industry operations, he attended the Herman Brood Academie, a prominent vocational school for music industry professionals.[2]
Musical style and career
STUGATS' production style is characterized by fast tempos, distorted and pumping basskicks, and atmospheric soundscapes.[3] His work is recognized for its experimentation and fusion of disparate sounds, balancing hard-hitting industrial techno and hardcore elements with contrasting melodic or euphoric undertones and aggressive synthesizers. His approach utilizes unconventional audio techniques to challenge traditional norms within the contemporary techno scene.
He has secured musical releases with underground labels such as Gabber Industries Berlin, where he released his EP Speakerfreak.[2] Additionally, his music and edits are associated with platforms such as Technowereld, Obscuur, Crusade, and his own affiliated imprint, Sfigati Records.[3]
STUGATS has also gained traction within the hard techno community via audio platforms like SoundCloud through a series of high-tempo club "Hard Edits" of popular songs, including bootlegs of Def Rhymz's "Schudden".[1] As a live performer, he functions as a DJ across various electronic nightlife events in the Netherlands and the European club circuit, incorporating his direct, logical production style into live DJ sets.[4]
