Comment: Quite possibly, and against stiff competition, this is the most nakedly AI submission I have ever seen. ChrysGalley (talk) 10:23, 10 June 2026 (UTC)

Origin Live is a British manufacturer of turntables, tonearms and hi-fi accessories based in Southampton, England. Founded in 1986 by Mark Baker, the company first became known in the early 1990s for aftermarket modifications to Rega tonearms before developing its own range of tonearms and turntables.[1][2]
History
The company was established by Mark Baker in Southampton in 1986. According to the company, it was initially named Cable Design and produced solid-core hi-fi cable before adding equipment-support products and adopting the name Origin Live in 1987.[3] Baker had previously trained as a naval architect and worked at the Southampton warship builder Vosper Thornycroft.[4]
From the early 1990s the company offered modifications to Rega tonearms, including rewiring and structural changes to models such as the RB250 and RB300, and later sold direct-current motor upgrade kits for belt-drive turntables.[5][1] It subsequently developed tonearms of its own design and introduced its first turntable, the Oasis, in 1991.[1]
Origin Live is a family-run business; Baker's sons have held roles in production and marketing.[6][4] Its premises are in the Sholing area of Southampton, in a building historically associated with Supermarine aircraft manufacture including the Spitfire.[4]
Products
Origin Live manufactures tonearms across several price tiers, with models including the Onyx, Silver, Illustrious, Encounter, Enterprise, Agile and Conqueror.[6][1] Its turntable range has included the Oasis, Aurora, Calypso, Resolution and Sovereign models.[1][2][5] The company also produces hi-fi accessories such as motor upgrade kits, platter mats, drive belts and equipment supports, and has historically offered cables, loudspeakers and phono stages.[3]
Although the company's earliest tonearms were based on modified Rega components, later designs were of wholly in-house manufacture.[2] Notable developments in tonearms include the dual pivot tonearm bearing, a corrective hybrid of the unipivot bearing that was invented simultaneously in the early 2000's by Origin Live and companies: Kuzma, and Moerch.
Reception
Origin Live's products have been reviewed in specialist hi-fi publications. In Stereophile, Michael Fremer reviewed the Resolution turntable with Encounter tonearm in 2004, describing the combination as one of the finest performers he had heard "at any price".[7] The Resolution Mk3 was subsequently listed in Stereophile's Recommended Components in 2014 and 2016.[8][9] The company's turntables and tonearms have also been reviewed by Hi-Fi+, StereoNET, The Absolute Sound and other audio publications.[2][5]
