Nelson Kent (fighter)
Nelson Foster-Bishop Kent (born June 16, 2008) is an American professional mixed martial artist. He currently competes in the Featherweight division of Attitude MMA (AMMA)[1], where he has caught the attention of many for his incredibly dominant wrestling capabilities. As of June 24, 2026, he is #2 in the Midsouth Professional MMA rankings.
Mixed Martial Arts Career
Early Career
Kent trains in Memphis, TN, at Fite Nite MMA[2] led by trainer Christopher Nolen, and is coached by Mitchell Dunn. Kent also trains at Memphis Judo & Jiu Jitsu[3] under coach Jason Mathers.
Kent was given the nickname "Thug Angel" by one of his MMA coaches in Memphis early on in his career. 
After achieving amateur records of 6-1 (MMA) 2-0 (Kickboxing) and 38-6 (Wrestling), Kent stuck with MMA and debuted professionally, fighting the first 3 fights of his career in his native Memphis, before competing at the Black Cat Cage Fights in Kenton, where he got a highlight-reel first round finish over Mukhammed Romanov-Turk via spinning heel kick. After his win over Romanov-Turk, Kent earned a spot on Jefferson Fight Team, where he met his manager, José Martinez.
Submission grappling
GFTeam: Europe
Kent competed at GFTeam Europe Submission Grappling International Showcase (GESGIS) as a member of Team USA on December 12, 2025. He submitted Kyoji Takahashi with a guillotine choke in his opening round of the tournament but was subsequently submitted by Tagir Melendes with an ankle-lock. The team advanced to the next round and faced Team Switzerland. In that round, he went to a draw with former Cage Fury featherweight champion, Kevin Pease.
Personal Life
Kent was born and raised in Memphis, TN. He has a sister, Lillian Kent, along with his mother, Catherine Kent, and his father, Cullen Kent. Kent followed a very disciplined lifestyle throughout his youth, balancing his job in landscaping with his MMA and Wrestling careers. Kent was a notable student in the classroom, attending the most prestigious private school in the city, Christian Brothers High School. Kent competed on the wrestling team before deciding to transition to Mixed Martial Arts. From early on in life, those around him described him as a quiet, clever kid who never let negativity and doubt hold him back from athletic success.
