Maz Murray (born 1995) is an artist and writer from Essex now based in London who makes films, writing and performances. Murray says they use "satire, surrealism and melodrama to talk about queer and trans identity, class, and the complexities of public life."[1]
Early life and education
Murray was born in Basildon and grew up in Laindon. They graduated from Chelsea College of Arts with a BA in Fine Art in 2017.[citation needed]
Work and career
Murray had their first institutional solo show, Principal Boy[2], at Focal Point Gallery in 2024.[3] He’s currently working on a collaborative performance, PLOT HOLE, developed while an awardee at Studio Voltaire. They have also exhibited with galleries including Whitechapel Gallery, Turner Contemporary and the ICA . [4][5][6]
Murray co-authored the book Jaw Filler with Charlie Markbreiter, which was published by Montez Press in 2025.[7]
