Louis Emma was a twentieth century American artist born in Providence, R.I., USA. Born 11/30/1919, into a family of musicians and performers, as a young man Mr. Emma was an accordionist who played professionally in nightclubs and speakeasies during and after the depression era.

During WWII, Louis was in the US Air Force, where he was an instructor for airplane engine repair. After the war Mr. Emma was employed as a house painter in his family's business until he became an artist in the early 1970's. At this time Mr. Emma began an independent study of art, engaging with drawing and painting. From his youth, only 3 art pieces exists: one watercolor of a pianist, a design for the high school yearbook, and a hammered brass portrait of a man.

Mr. Emma primarily painted landscapes, seascapes, and flowers, occasionally branching out into portraits and figures (Palmer, Sally). He won the W. Alden Brown Memorial Award for a water color painting, and was the first Rhode Islander, along with his son, the published author and artist Steve Emma, to have their art shown at Bryant University (Emma, Steve, and Bryant's Business). They showed together at the Italian American Historical Society and at Art shows in Providence (Gallo et al, Jansunonis, Micheal)

He passed away on 8, 16, 1997
