Joe Haigh is an American college basketball coach who served as the head women's basketball coach at Saint Francis University from 2012 to 2019. He led the program to a Northeast Conference (NEC) championship and an appearance in the NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament.
Coaching career

Haigh was named head coach at Saint Francis University in 2012 after previously serving as an assistant coach in the program.[1]
During his tenure, he compiled a 93–100 overall record and led the team to multiple Northeast Conference championship game appearances.[1]
His most successful season came in 2017–18, when Saint Francis won the NEC tournament and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.[1]
In the 2018 NCAA Tournament, Saint Francis faced top-seeded UConn, losing 140–52 in a record-setting game.[2]
Haigh’s strategy in the matchup drew national attention. He said the approach was to try to outscore UConn, stating, “Nobody else in the world stopped them, so we were going to try to outscore them.”[2]
Saint Francis attempted 57 three-point shots in the game, an NCAA Tournament record, reflecting Haigh’s emphasis on pace and perimeter shooting.[2]
Despite the outcome, Haigh defended the approach, explaining the team aimed to “show how we play” and compete using its established system.[2]
Resignation
Haigh took a leave of absence during the 2018–19 season and later resigned as head coach for personal reasons.[3]
Later coaching career
Following his tenure at Saint Francis, Haigh served as an assistant coach at several NCAA Division I programs, including Siena College, Mount St. Mary's University, Utah State University, and Monmouth University.[4]
Coaching style
Haigh’s teams were known for an up-tempo system emphasizing three-point shooting and offensive pace. His approach prioritized maximizing possessions and maintaining an aggressive style of play, even against higher-ranked opponents.[2]
