Jimmy Fairly is a French eyewear company specializing in sunglasses and prescription glasses, founded in 2010. The company operates as a vertically integrated brand, managing the design of its frames and their exclusive distribution through its own retail network. Positioned in the “accessible luxury” segment, it has been compared to the American eyewear company Warby Parker for its direct-to-consumer business model.[1]
History
Jimmy Fairly was founded in Paris in 2010 by Antonin Chartier and Sacha Bostani. Initially launched as an online-only retailer, the company adopted an omnichannel strategy following the opening of its first physical store in the Marais district of Paris in 2012.[2]
In 2017, Experienced Capital Partners — an investment fund led by former executives of SMCP (Sandro, Maje, Claudie Pierlot) — acquired a stake in the company.[3]
In July 2021, the investment firm HLD acquired a majority stake in Jimmy Fairly in a transaction valued at approximately €150 million.[4] The acquisition aimed to accelerate the brand’s expansion in Europe, particularly in the United Kingdom and Italy.
By 2024, the company had surpassed 130 stores across Europe.[5]
In 2025, Jimmy Fairly expanded into the United States with the opening of a store in New York.[6]
Business model
Jimmy Fairly operates under a direct-to-consumer (DTC) model, eliminating traditional distribution intermediaries and licensing fees typically associated with luxury eyewear brands.[1]
Collections are designed in-house at the company’s Paris-based studio. The brand uses materials including Italian Mazzucchelli cellulose acetate and Japanese titanium. It also operates a workshop in the Île-de-France region where final assembly, lens edging, and quality control for prescription eyewear are conducted before shipment.[7]
The design of its retail stores follows the aesthetic codes of lifestyle and fashion boutiques rather than the traditional clinical environment of optical stores.
International expansion
Originally established in France, Jimmy Fairly expanded into several European markets including the United Kingdom, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Germany, Luxembourg, and Switzerland. In 2025, the company entered the U.S. market with the opening of a New York store.[6][failed verification]
Social commitment
Since its founding, Jimmy Fairly has operated under a “Buy One, Give One” model, whereby for every pair of glasses sold, a pair of reading glasses is donated.[2] In partnership with the NGO RestoringVision, the company has distributed more than two million pairs of reading glasses worldwide as of 2025.
Since 2025, the company has supported Helen Keller Europe in initiatives aimed at combating vitamin A deficiency.
