Jake Brasch is an American playwright, composer, and performer. His play The Reservoir was produced by several regional theatres before being presented Off-Broadway by Atlantic Theater Company in 2026. His musical HOLE!, created with Nadja Leonhard-Hooper under the name American Sing-Song, was announced as part of Playwrights Horizons' 2026–27 season.

Early life and education

Brasch is from Denver, Colorado. He studied playwriting at the Juilliard School.[1]

Career

Brasch's play The Reservoir was co-produced in 2025 by the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, Alliance Theatre, and Geffen Playhouse.[2][3][4] The play was later presented Off-Broadway by Atlantic Theater Company in association with Ensemble Studio Theatre and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, with performances beginning in February 2026.[5][6][7][8] The production starred Noah Galvin, Caroline Aaron, Chip Zien, Mary Beth Peil, Peter Maloney, Heidi Armbruster, and Matthew Saldívar.[9]

Brasch collaborates with playwright and performer Nadja Leonhard-Hooper under the name American Sing-Song. Their musical HOLE! premiered at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2025.[10] In 2026, Playwrights Horizons announced that HOLE!, written by American Sing-Song and directed by RJ Tolan, would be part of its 2026–27 season.[11][12]

In 2026, Brasch appeared on the public radio program Science Friday, discussing themes of memory and cognitive decline in connection with The Reservoir.[13]

Awards and honors

Brasch received the Vineyard Theatre's Paula Vogel Playwriting Award and the Kennedy Center's Paula Vogel Award in Playwriting. He was also the inaugural recipient of the Terrence McNally Recovery Commission.[14][15]

The Reservoir won the 2025 Henry Award for Outstanding New Play or Musical and the 2025 Suzi Bass Award for Outstanding World Premiere Production.[16][17] The Off-Broadway production received nominations from the Drama Desk Awards, Outer Critics Circle Awards, and Lucille Lortel Awards.[18]
