Hamilton Mayo (February 26, 1851-January 26, 1924) was a judge, businessman, public official, and state legislator who represented Leominster in the Massachusetts House of Representatives in 1904 and 1905.
He graduated from Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, New Hampshire[1] and Dartmouth.[2]
Mayo arrived in Leominster in 1875, established a law office, was appointed trial judge in 1883, served as town auditor, was a member of the Water Board, chaired the School Board, was a Library Trustee, and served as president of the Leominster City Council. He represented the citizens of Leominster in the Massachusetts House of Representatives in 1904 and 1905, was president of Leominster National Bank and built significant buildings in downtown Leominster including a hotel.[3]
He and John H. Lockey built the Columbia Hotel in Leominster in 1892. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982 and burned in 2012.[4]
After his first wife died he remarried. Two children survived him. Owned a large summer estate n 25 acres.[2]
He was the first president of the Leominster Home for Old Ladies. He was a Unitarian and involved in various other groups including the Leominster Historical Society.[2]
He was buried at Evergreen Cemetery in Leominste (Section 7, Lot 129). A postcard was made of his residence.[5]
